Jacky's Story

Watch The Interview

In this interview, Jacky shared the inspiring journey of turning their lived experience into a microenterprise that supports neurodivergent children and adults. It began with creating “Thingies” — sensory toys designed to calm and comfort — along with playdough, keyrings, and storybooks, each reflecting Jacky’s unique insight into sensory needs.

While Jacky loved making the products, navigating markets and managing energy levels could be overwhelming. That’s where The RED Group became essential. Through RED, Jacky didn’t just receive guidance on selling — they found a supportive community that valued the person first. RED helped Jacky explore new ways to run their business: selling online, attending smaller local markets, and pacing themselves in a way that worked for them.

Through this person-first, flexible support, Jacky:

Developed a range of sensory toys, playdough, and storybooks that educate and entertain.

Learned to balance social engagement, creativity, and business goals.

Maintained control over their journey, supported by RED, family, and mentors.

Jacky’s story shows the power of support that listens first, builds safe networks, and adapts to individual needs. RED’s role included:

Creating a welcoming, inclusive community.
Providing a safe space to test ideas and sell products.
Offering practical coaching, encouragement, and creative solutions.

Lessons Learned

Jacky’s story reminds us that microenterprise isn’t just about products or profit — it’s about belonging, choice, and hope. By supporting someone to engage with RED, you help them:

  • Discover what motivates and inspires them.

  • Build skills at a pace that suits them.

  • Connect with people who understand their experience.

  • Create a business that works around their life, not the other way around.
